Black Ram (Mikrogeophagus ramirezi)
Description
The Black Ram, also known as the Black German Ram, is a selectively bred color variant of the popular Mikrogeophagus ramirezi. It features a stunning velvety black or dark charcoal body, accented with electric blue specks and striking red eyes. This newer strain has quickly become a favorite among aquarists for its unique, elegant look and peaceful nature.
Black Rams display the same curious and social behavior as the traditional German Blue Rams, often interacting with their keepers and showing off during feeding time. Their deep coloration intensifies under warm, clean water and a calm environment, making them a true showpiece in any community or planted aquarium.

-
Peaceful community fish like tetras, rasboras, and Corydoras
-
Dwarf gouramis or Apistogramma (with caution)
-
Shrimp (optional — may be preyed upon)
Avoid aggressive or fast-moving fish such as barbs or larger cichlids.
️ Diet
Omnivorous and eager eaters:
-
High-quality flakes and micro pellets

Frozen/live foods (brine shrimp, daphnia, bloodworms)
-
Occasional veggie-based supplements
Feed small, frequent meals (2–3 times daily) to maintain good health and coloration.
Behavior & Breeding
