Ramshorn Snails – Product Description

Scientific Name: Planorbarius corneus

Ramshorn Snails are popular freshwater clean-up crew members known for their distinctive spiral shells that resemble a rams’ horn. Available in colours ranging from red, blue, pink, brown, and spotted, they add movement and character to any aquarium. These snails are excellent algae eaters and will help consume uneaten food, making them great additions to planted, community, or shrimp tanks.

Hardy, peaceful, and active both day and night, Ramshorns are ideal for beginners and experienced aquarists.

Minimum Tank Setup

• 1 gallon+ per snail, though best kept in established aquariums

• Lids recommended — they can travel above the waterline at times

• Hardness: Medium–hard water; soft water may cause shell erosion

️ Diet

Ramshorn snails are scavengers and will eat:

• Algae

• Uneaten fish food

• Blanched vegetables (zucchini, spinach, lettuce)

• Calcium-rich foods to support shell growth

Tank Compatibility

• Excellent with shrimp, peaceful fish, nano species, community tanks

• Avoid:

  • Loaches

  • Pufferfish

  • Larger cichlids
    These species may harass or eat snails.

Population Notes

• They can reproduce quickly if overfed

• To control population:
