Enclosure Requirements (for a 1-inch Juvenile)

Container Size: A small plastic terrarium or deli cup is ideal until it grows larger. The enclosure should be about 3–4 times the spider’s leg span in length, and at least twice its leg span in height.
-
Substrate: 2–3 inches of moist coconut fiber, peat moss, or soil to allow burrowing. Keep substrate slightly damp but not wet.
-
Temperature: 72–78°F (22–25°C) – room temperature usually works well.
-
Humidity: 65–75%. Lightly mist one side of the enclosure once or twice a week, allowing the other side to stay dry.
-
Ventilation: Provide small air holes for airflow while maintaining humidity.
-
Hides: A small piece of cork bark, moss, or a little burrow in the substrate will make the spider feel secure.
-
Water: For a 1-inch sling, lightly moisten part of the substrate rather than providing a dish. For juveniles closer to 2 inches, a very shallow water dish can be introduced.
Diet
-
Juvenile Diet (1 inch): Pinhead crickets, small roaches, or cut-up mealworms.
-
Feeding Frequency: 2–3 times per week in small portions.
-
Notes: Remove any uneaten prey within 24 hours to prevent stress or injury.

-
Juveniles may be more reclusive, often burrowing or hiding.

Handling
-
Not recommended at this size, as they are delicate and can be injured easily.
-
Better enjoyed as a display species, especially while still small.
Special Notes
-
As they grow, increase enclosure size and substrate depth. Adults thrive in a 5–10 gallon terrarium with 4–6 inches of substrate.
-
Excellent beginner tarantula due to its calm nature and forgiving care needs.
-
Molting is a natural part of growth. Before a molt, the spider may refuse food and become less active—this is normal.
