trets (neolamprologus tretacephalus)
Description:
Neolamprologus tretacephalus, commonly called Trets, is a small but striking shell-dwelling cichlid from Lake Tanganyika. They are known for their elongated bodies, elegant fins, and subtle coloration, usually a combination of pale brown or tan with darker vertical stripes. These cichlids are highly territorial, especially around their chosen shells, and are fascinating to watch as they defend their homes and interact with other fish.

Habitat: Provide plenty of shells or similar hiding spots as these fish are shell dwellers. Sandy substrate is preferred to allow them to dig and rearrange shells.
-
Diet: Omnivorous. Feed a variety of high-quality cichlid flakes, pellets, frozen or live foods like brine shrimp and daphnia.
-
Behavior: Territorial and best kept in groups with one male per several females. Can coexist with other peaceful Tanganyikan cichlids but avoid aggressive species.
-
Breeding: Egg-layers in shells. Females guard the eggs and fry in their shells. Provide multiple shells to reduce aggression and support breeding.
